History

The eSports Award History reaches back into the year 2004, where the award ceremony was held for the first time. Already then, the eSports Award show took place in the city of Leipzig, Germany, parallel to Games Convention, the largest games exhibition in the world. With lots of eSports events taking place at the trade fair, it firmly established itself as THE gaming event of the year.

Thus, right from the start a multitude of eSports personalities attended the eSports Award ceremony and underscored the importance of this first serious industry award in eSports. At first, the show was held in a concert location in the city and consecutively moved to the fairgrounds, with more space and better technical conditions for those in attendance.

Many of those nominated or awarded had their lives changed since then. Ones rose to greatness, others ended their gaming careers with many of those remaining in the scene in other functions than gamers. Taking a look at the winners of the last years affords one the possibility to let eSports history unfold before one's eyes.

Through their eSports Award wins, the domination of Grubby in 2006, Vo0 taking the world by storm in 2005 or Madfrog's last year as reigning WC3 champion in 2004 will forever be engraved into the history of eSports. Not to be forgotten all the young players who were nominated for Best Newcomer and came to be known all over the world as some of the best of their craft.
