Since 2004, the eSports Award has become the most prestigious accolade available in eSports. The Award is designed to give athletes, teams, journalists and developers involved in eSports proper recognition for their work and sportsmanship. Only the best of the best are honoured with the prize. The winners were up until now determined by a jury. This has changed!
Starting in 2008, the eSports Award will establish an Academy comprised of star players, opinion leaders, eSports Award winners and other people from the eSports industry. The Academy will choose the winner of the eSports Award in different categories. In the beginning, the Academy will only vote for the winners of most of the categories, but in the future, the Academy will take over more functions surrounding the eSports Award.
These are the members of the eSports Award Academy at the moment. The list will grow with more famous and important faces of the eSports industry being invited to the eSports Academy over the coming years.
"I welcome the creation of the eSports Award Academy as the first truly global and highly specialised committee in eSports. I am grateful, that all these experts in journalism, team management, PR and business as well as the best players of the past and present have agreed to form this new society. These pioneers, visionaries and top athletes are living proof that the eSports Award is the highest honor that any person can achieve within eSports. The Academy lends credibility, stability and global understanding to our sport. By creating highly specialised chapters, involved in choosing the best of the best in their respective field, the fifth annual eSports Award is set on a broader basis of opinions. This move increases professionalism and signifies the importance that the eSports Award has gained both within global media and the eSports community, and it sets the course for steady evolution over the next years."

The eSports Award Academy members will work in chapters regarding their area of expertise. One chapter, consisting of the well known esport journalists, will determine the winner of the Scene Journalist Award. This is a list of preselected articles for the Best Scene Journalist Award. The nominees will also be determined by the chapter.
