Today we want to announce the eSports Award 2009. Again at the end of August all eyes of the eSports scene will turn to Germany and the very next eSports Award Ceremony. An Audience from all over the world will tune in, to watch which stars gets the coveted trophy for their performance in the last 12 month.

This year's eSports Award will be given out in 13 categories:

• eSports Player of the Year
• eSports Team of the Year
• Best Counter-Strike Player
• Best Warcraft 3 Player
• Newcomer / Breakthrough of the Year
• Best eSports Coverage
• Scene Journalist Award
• Journalist Award
• eSports Game of the Year
• eSports Photo of the Year
• Best Call of Duty Player
• Consoles Player of the Year
• Consoles Team of the Year

(Regional) eSports Player of the Year
Like last year the “eSports Player of the Year“ award will be subdivided into six regional awards: America, China, Korea, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Northern Europe. The public polls will be held on the biggest and most prestigious eSport pages of all six regions from June 25th until July 5th. Every eSport page votes only the nominees of its affiliated region. The six winners of the regional polls will be nominated for the worldwide “eSports Player of the Year“ and will be crowned at the eSports Award Ceremony in August.

Best eSports Coverage
Taking into account last year's criticism of this category, for the first time the winner of the Best eSports Coverage Award will be determined by the eSports Award Academy. But the community still has a major influence on the outcome as they will be deciding who the five nominees are going to be.

All eSports websites, that think they deserve a nomination, can apply at contact@esports-award.org until June 17th. We will then compile a list of all websites that applied and make a public poll. The top 5 from this vote will be nominated for the award.

Best Scene Journalist / eSports Photo of the Year
With these specific eSports Awards we honour the performance of eSports writers and photographers, enhancing the horizon of their readers with entertaining and worthwhile pieces of journalism and wonderful captures of exciting moments in eSports. We will announce the beginning of the application process for these two categories separately. What we can already tell you is, that to be eligible all pictures and articles need to be published on or before June 30th.
